Sertoma’s primary service project is assisting people with speech, hearing and language disorders. The Georgetown Sertoma Club is dedicated to helping those in need within Williamson County by providing resources for testing, treatment, and equipment to help with hearing disorders. Our primary focus is to help those who are unable to help themselves and are economically disadvantaged.
Sertoma started a program called SHARP (Sertoma Hearing Aid Recycle Program) that has grown nationwide. Our club has 10 hearing aid collection locations where hearing aids are collected to help those in need. We work closely with the University of Texas Speech & Hearing Center to test and evaluate patients that we refer. We also have a working relationship with many local audiologists and hearing centers to help those in need.
Our club has also been very active in the installation of several “looping” systems in our community. This induction loop technology enables those with modern digital hearing devices equipped with a t-coil to improve hearing quality. The Georgetown Public Libary meeting rooms, City Council Chambers, and the Palace Theatre are all equipped with Sertoma sponsored looping systems.
Our local Sertoma club is also active in providing hearing testing equipment for Lone Star Circle of Care and supporting Georgetown ISD with I-Pads and software. In addition, we have provided software to R.O.C.K. (Ride on Center for Kids) to assist with improving hearing language disorders.
